How to Clean Your Windshield in 4 Easy Steps
A dirty windshield isn’t just ugly—it’s dangerous. Smudges, grime, and haze mess with your visibility and make your car look neglected. Want to fix it fast and do it right? Here’s how to clean your windshield in four simple steps that actually work.
Step 1: Start With a Rinse
Before you spray anything, rinse off loose dirt and debris. Use a hose or a spray bottle with water. This prevents dust or grit from scratching the glass when you start wiping. If you're doing this mid-wash, you’re already set—just keep the area wet.
Step 2: Use the Right Glass Cleaner
Not all cleaners are created equal. Skip the cheap blue stuff that leaves streaks and go for an automotive-grade glass cleaner—ammonia-free if you’ve got tinted windows. Spray generously across the outside of the windshield, then the inside.
Pro Tip: Don’t use household cleaners. Many contain chemicals that leave residue or damage tint over time.
Step 3: Wipe With a Microfiber Towel
Use a clean, dry microfiber towel—not paper towels or whatever rag you found in your trunk. Wipe in straight lines—horizontal on the outside, vertical on the inside. That way, if you see streaks afterward, you know which side they’re on.
Don’t rush this. Slow and even pressure wins here.
Step 4: Hit the Edges and Corners
Grime loves to hide along the edges of the windshield and behind the wipers. Fold your microfiber towel and use the corner to get into the edges. Run a cloth underneath the wiper blades too. No point in cleaning the glass if your blades just smear it all over again.
